Emergency Management

South Jordan's Emergency Management program is responsible for coordinating the combined efforts and resources from all levels of government and various volunteer organizations to assist and protect the citizens of South Jordan from the effects of disasters, both natural and manmade. The Emergency Management division supports the community before, during, and after unusual event s and major disasters by focusing on mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities.

Our program consists of a full time Emergency Management Coordinator who serves as the city's liaison on emergency preparedness, response and recovery issues; coordinates training programs and emergency operations drills and exercises; assists departments with their emergency response and mitigation plans; and operates the Emergency Operations Center when necessary to manage the distribution of city services and resources to respond to and recover from a disaster. The Coordinator works closely with the Fire Department, Police Department, Public Works and other City, County and State agencies to identify and analyze the hazards that may face the community and to develop and implement emergency plans using an "all hazards" approach.

The City has an Emergency Management Plan that contains a hazard analysis and addresses the four phases of emergency management to prepare and mitigate for, respond to and recover from all types of disasters. Questions about the plan may be directed to the Emergency Management Coordinator.

Community safety through credible educational services, open communications and cooperative efforts and advance preparation are some of the goals of the South Jordan Emergency Management Program. South Jordan offers community education courses such as CERT, CPR, First Aid, and other disaster preparedness courses. The links on this website are designed to be a reliable resource for information about natural disasters like winter storms, flooding, high winds, tornadoes, and earthquakes, as well as man-made disasters such as power outages, terrorism and hazardous materials incidents that may occur in South Jordan. In general, people who have learned what to do to prepare for emergencies before they occur are much more likely to escape property loss, injury, or death during a disaster.
